SFU rugby has been my friends, family, and home for 15 years. It taught me a myriad of life lessons; every sad moment feels better with exercise and friends, the difference between being hurt and injured, and to how give back to something bigger (but not how to chug a beer). I wouldnt be who i am today without SFU. There's also something satisfying about colleagues saying they don't have plans for the weekend and asking "what are you doing?", and the answer always being "I've got rugby".

Joining SFU rugby really changed how I viewed sports. My experience with sports, especially team sports, growing up was absolutely awful. I was excluded and made feel lesser than by teammates and coaches alike. It really damaged my self esteem, and I didn’t think I’d ever be involved in sports again. That was further complicated when I came out as trans, which also made me pretty certain that I wouldn’t even be allowed on any sports team. SFU rugby welcomed me without question, and my experience has been so awesome. It’s given me so much confidence and purpose to play rugby on the team. I feel supported and accepted, and it really keeps me going when things get rough. I’m so grateful for the club!

I joined SFU Rugby in the summer season where I was welcomed with open arms by members of the club past and present. Despite having never played before I was always encouraged to participate and get involved. I remember playing touch over the summer thinking who is that old man stepping me and dashing past me, only to find out in fall that was my coach! SFU Rugby has a wonderful blend of competitiveness and development all put together by people who truly love the sport and the community.
